Debit Card Canceled - Pin Number Reset?
Despite getting mail from our bank here...
Despite getting phone calls from our bank here...

They sent my debit card to our old address citing their mistake in updating my address (my husband's card came to our current house without a problem).

Obviously when we told them what happened they canceled both my old card and the card sent to the wrong address. I understand that. I received my new debit card and activated it as necessary via their banking website.

Well, you can imagine my surprise when I try to make a pin transaction and it didn't recognize my pin. We're on the phone with them now, but is this a common practice? No one we spoke with informed us that my pin number would be "canceled" as well.

Does anyone have any insight?

Best Answer

1) Your old card was canceled.
2) Then they mail you a new card with a different card number.
3) Then, in a SEPARATE mailing, you will receive your new PIN. New cards (even if they are replacement cards) don't carry the the same PIN as your old card. It's a security thing - think about it. If, for example, someone knew your old PIN, they possibly could 'lift' your new card if the PIN was still the same. That's why they change PIN numbers on new cards and mail the card and the PIN number letter separately as well.

Stupid people hired by the bank to save money. Hire an idiot, you get idiocy, and that's what you are running up against.
