Should i just get rid of the debt?

Should i just get rid of the debt?

Should i just get rid of the debt?
I have credit card debt from an old relationship. My ex pays the credit card, but it will take years for him to ever pay it off. It's about $4000. I have money in a retirement fund and I could withdraw it without the additional early withdrawal penalty. I have no other credit card debt. Should I just pay it off and help out my credit (and get the ex out of my life)?
the ex has bad credit and an unstable job history so the odds of him getting a loan and taking it over are slim. i feel it will just be frustration trying to make sure he pays every month.

Yes I would pay this off and consider it a lesson learned. Never share financial arrangements with anyone other than your spouse. I would avoid using retirement funds though if at all possible. Can you wait a few months and try to pay it with cash? Perhaps you can just make payments on it until you have enough to close it. Either way, I'd make sure you get this acount paid off quickly and closed!

If it's your debt you pay it. If it's his he pays it. If it's a combined debt, pay your half and sign the other half over to him and move on with your life. Talk to the credit card company about the situation, you might be surprised about how helpful they can be in these situations.
