What medical specialty should i continue to look into?
I am only a sophomore in high school, but i have known since 7th grade that i want to go to medical school. In the past, i have wanted to be a pediatrician, but i feel that that may not be the best place for me.

my interests include: 1.children (preferably babies)
2. pregnancies
3. multiples (twins, triplets, etc)
4. psychology (the way the mind works- not really diseases or drug abuse)
5. " "(but i am interested in physical and emotional abuse and how it effects future dealings)

i was thinking about a neonatologist, an obstetrician (but i don't want to be an ob/gyn because i am more interested in the pregnancy process instead of the reproductive system), or a place in maternal-fetal medicine.

i would appreciate stories from those who work in the field i am interested in, personal experiences, or just opinions as to which specialty i should look into farther.

i am a big researcher, and i love to google things that interest me, so please don't tell me to wait until i get into medical school to decide, i want to start really looking into these fields and taking classes that have to do with them.

also, i am thinking about my major being (pre-med route) psychology, any opinions, encouragements, warnings, etc. about this?

Actually the OB/GYN would be a good field for you to do. You may think that all of it has to do just with the reproductive system, but in fact it deals with many other things as well with the women's health. I will attempt to describe both of them below for you to take a look at.

Obstetrics -- deals with helping expectant mothers with problems that they may have in order to have a successful and viable pregnancy. They teach the expectant mother with nutrition and also with appropriate care after the baby is born.

Gynecology -- this deals not only with the reproductive health of the women's health, it also deals with the education on birth control, and the conditions that could effect a women's fertility.

You would also be good in something like neonatology, and then work as a labor and delivery nurse, pediatric nurse, or a child psychologist etc.

I think that you would would be good with all of the different types of things that deal with the women's health and also with the babie's health. Hopefully this helps you:)

One good thing about nursing is that you can expand to any of these
avenues during your career. Nursing research is out there, Quality
Assurance positions, working with babies, psychology are all
available. It matters how much school you are willing to do. You
can get a BSN is 4 years and make a good wage. Good luck!
