Is shirt or suit important for an interview of an intern programming job?
hi guys,

my question is : is it important that i wear a shirt for an intern programmer interview, or say, an interview from Microsoft for an intern position? because i don't feel comfortable wearing a suit or a shirt. it's like my whole life is wearing hoodies. i just want to know if the stupid "interview manner thing" is really important for a programmer job. thank you for your advice.

Yes the “interview manner thing” is important. You should wear a suit. The interview is about making a good first impression and marketing yourself and your skill set. Although you are interviewing for a programmer position the people who interview you may not all be programmers thus other industry culture rules apply. Meaning if you were interviewing for an accounting internship you would expect to wear a suit no question. You do not know if the interview panel consists of other department staff or end users until you get to the interview. It’s too late to change your clothes if people are there who jobs require that they wear suites and thus it would be an industry standard for their industry to interview in a suit. In addition, just because the job is a programmer and you don’t expect to wear a suit everyday does not mean you will never have to wear a suit.

You should wear a suit. It makes you look serious about the job. I had a company once were they asked you if appearance was important and went on to say "why didn't you comb your hair" or "why didn't you cut your fingernails."

First Impressions count. You may hate it but do it and it will pay off in the end.

Here's a helpful tip:

Always dress up as good as you think you should. It usually doesn't hurt to dress above what you think you should. If you think it's just shirt and pants, go to a suit. But just overall dress as best as you can and make a good impression. Good Luck!

Interview questions can be tricky, everyone wants to understand what questions will be asked - or indeed what questions to ask - but there is no straight answer. I had an interview over the past few weeks and blew it, but I wasn't down for long, I now make my money from Google after visiting the site below.

Wear the suit. You can't go wrong.

Wearing a hoodie would make the company think you don't respect the job.
