I don't understand? Is my situation that unique?

I don't understand? Is my situation that unique?
I was out at the market today and I ran into the WIFE of a friend of my husband, who mentioned to me that she heard about my man needing a job (from her husband) and that she would like to help. She asked me what type of work he was looking for. I told her and I mentioned to her that I too have been unemployed for a year now. I was surprised at her reaction, it was as if she didn't believe that I have been ACTIVELY looking. She glared and began to ask me very detailed questions, which made me question myself as to whether I should have even confided my situation at all. I'm just curious, how many people out there have been out of work for a while and have been actively looking in the admin field? And, if you were me, would you meet with her in the future, to seek assistance for a job? And, if you were out of work for a year and someone mentioned that they were an HR rep for 20 years and basically offered their services, wouldn't you have let them know that you needed a job?

nothing strange. she was just surprised. u probably dont look like u've been searching, which is good anyway. its not wrongu told her, but u can decide not to contact her again unless she contacts u. i wont call her again. keep searching online, post your c.v's. it'll come. your situation is not perculiar or unique

You have been actively looking for an admin position...
That's your problem-if you really needed a job you would broaden your options.
Also if you haven't found a position in the last year of actively looking- your resume is either out of date or unacceptable. Both things a good admin would take responsibility for and of. Either get the training you need or find yourself a paper hat.
The fact that both you and "your man" are too lazy to get a job isn't surprising if you won't take the time to update a resume. How are you living by the way? Do I pay enough taxes and health insurance to keep you and your man comfortable?
IF---big IF-- she calls- take the job-no matter what it is.

Looking for a job is like a job in and of itself. Your situation--in this economy--is not unique, however, if after even two months of using the same resume/cover letter you're not getting any hits, better to freshen up the stale document. Also, you have to realize in this economy you are competing with people who have more education, experience and are more attractive to hiring managers (an product of economic downturn)

And yeah, when I was out of work, I took a job at Outback because I needed a job and used my day light hours to pound the pavement, work on my resume, score teaching gigs, network until I connected with my current employer and such.

I won't comment on above other than to say I've been diligently searching for a position in any way related to my field of experience and knowledge. If it's not "You're over qualified" it's because of my age. I'm 66 and in great shape but the vast majority of employers today actually do discriminate because of age. Not much you can do about it, either.
Wife can't even land a service industry position at min. wage and she's a great worker. They hire the younger folks, also, with less experience, less interest and less loyalty.
