Waiters in california, how much do you make?
I'm moving to Long Beach CA, and will probably have to be a server. How much do you make a month without tips? (Average restaurant like Chili's, Applebees, or Fridays.) Are your tips the majority of your income?
If you ARE willing to share, please be as honest and detailed as possible. Also, is it difficult to rent an apartment and other similar things because your tips are not 'trackable income'?

I can't tell you what they make since that isn't my industry, but I can tell you that Long Beach is a tough market to get a job in even if it's to wait tables when the economy is good. There are 2 colleges here, CSULB and Long Beach City College and those kids take a lot of the waiter positions.
Another mark against finding a job here is our unemployment in Long Beach is 9.9%. The huge Boeing factory is in the process of closing down and those people are looking for work too.
My friends that have been laid off are trying to find waitstaff or hostess positions and they can't even though they have past experience.
Tips would be the majority of your income and you shouldn't have a problem renting an apartment.
Start looking in the The Grunion Gazette, Long Beach Post Telegram and The District, all local papers, to see if they have any restaurant ads. They all have web sites.
Long Beach has tons of Mom and Pop eateries that have been here for decades and you shouldn't limit yourself to the chains.
Good luck!
