How do you get a first job at 16?

How and where can i get a job? I feel really awkward walking into places asking if i can work here. also i hate online applications because it feels those things are never even looked at. how should i go about getting a job and what places?!?!?

Fast food or grocery is the easiest. Fill in the paper application in store or look for the kiosk application system. Either way, NEVER fill it in online, even if that is the only option. Call back after 4-7 days and talk to the Hiring manager. The key is consistency. I'm 16 myself and I'm not satisfied at all with the current job I have so I kept sending in applications and calling. And guess what, I got myself an interview with Kroger tomorrow! Don't ever get discouraged. Keep moving on through the process. Good luck.

Fast food is probably the easiest. Walk up to the counter and ask for an application. Any large chain will have a ton of them beneath the counter. Fill it out, hand it in.

Then - and this is important - wait 2-4 days, call the place, and ask if they got your application. Either they'll tell you they have no open spots, or they'll call you in for an interview.
