Made a mistake on insurance application, what should I do?
I just filed an insurance application today with an agent. I realized later today that I forgot to check off a section that asked if I have ever been treated for anxiety. I remembered I had gone to a therapist six years ago.

I don't plan on ever getting anymore care for anxiety. But I'm worried this 'mistake' could cause my policy to be denied or worse recinded.

Should I call back my agent and see if he wants to cancell the application before they start to process it?

Best Answer

It would be best to call the agent, and make sure that the error is corrected, EVEN IF the agent says there is no problem. You need to be fully open when it comes to insurance, because you do not want any problems when it is really needed.

In truth, it will probably not affect your application. It's not like the company is comparing your answers to a list somewhere. The only problem would be if you DID get treated for it in the future, and the doctor you saw put down that this is the 2nd time you've been treated, the Insurance company could deny the claim and possibly even cancel your policy. Again this is a big IF.

The main problem is that you have a mistake, which could cost you in the future. If you CAN make a call and get this changed on the application before it is submitted, then do so. If nothing else making this notation to your agent will prevent them from saying they were not informed later.
